What is the XBOX 360 RED RING OF DEATH? This error causes three of the four red lights on the face of the Xbox to be displayed. The most likely cause is that the GPU (Graphics Processing Unit) has become unattached from the mother board. This is due to a new type of lead-free solder not being used properly. Air bubbles and discrepancies in the solder are made worse when the unit experiences fluctuating heat due to prolonged gaming. This problem can be fixed but must be done PROPERLY. If the GPU is replaced incorrectly the Xbox may never work again or you may only experience a temporary fix. After looking into getting our Xbox fixed we stumbled across many guides that explained how to properly fix this issue yourself.
